WHY Become a GreatLifeStories Historian?

  • You know how to use the internet.  To some, this is impossibly complex
  • Every life has Great Moments.  You can be the story teller for those that can't save these fleeting memories on their own
  • In fact, the older and more experienced the person, the more likely that the internet is a barrier for them.  You can be the enabler
  • If you don't collect these stories for them, who will?

WHAT’S in it for you?

  • FUN: True stories are entertaining, enriching, enlightening. You'll be amazed what you discover about friends, family…and yourself
  • FRIENDSHIP: You'll get to know life's most cherished people on a deeper, more meaningful level
  • GRATITUDE: You can lighten the burden of passing on a legacy from the person that feels the responsibility most, the author.  Every older experienced person would love to pass on their wisdom and how they found it.  You can make this possible
  • FAME: (Well, OK, maybe just a little fame). If you choose, you can have your profile featured on the GreatLifeStories "Historians" Website. To see a profile, click here

Helpful Tools

GreatLifeStories divides life experience into 12 "'chapters" designed to follow the course of many people's lives. To help you get the most from each interview, we highly recommend that you use the Life Chapters and associated questions.

As a Historian, the 12 Chapter structure gives you several advantages:

  • Speed: Sitting down to talk with an octogenarian to talk about their whole life can be daunting for interviewer AND subject. But if you start by saying: "I want to ask you just 12 questions about your life," the process suddenly becomes manageable.
  • Completeness: The 12 chapter structure covers almost every conceivable life circumstance. You'll get rich results.
  • Organization: Working within the 12-Chapter structure will make it fast and easy for you to upload your collected stories to the GreatLifeStory web site.

Practical tips for interviewers:

Visit the how to page for questions to use during interviews. It's a good idea to print this out and bring it to each interview.
