In Oklahoma my brothers used to play on a rope swing over the river. They would swing out, let go, and dive into the river. My brother Dodge was a little boy at that time, but he wanted to go with the older boys.

The boys never had girls around while they played, and none of them had bathing suits.

Sometimes, you wouldn’t make it into the river from the rope swing, and you would hit the bank. The boys used to pick huckleberries and lay them down on the muddy river bank. The huckleberries had lots of thorns, so if you didn’t make it into the river, you would get a behind full of stickers!

One day down by the river the boys saw the girls coming, so they ran and hid. But my brother dodge was so small that he just ran and stuck his head into the bushes, and left his behind sticking out in the air.
