In the summer of ’56 my dad was reassigned by General Electric’s public relations department to the growing atomic energy part of GE in California. So they moved out here to – General Electric had a big facility in San Jose. They moved the whole family, which was six kids at that time, and loaded us all on a United Airlines plane across the country for hours. We ended up in Saratoga California. We came out before and found a plot of land and had a house built on it and that house was just finished when we moved in.
All of my dad’s brothers and sisters – he had nine brothers and sisters – all of them remained on the east coast so all of my cousins and all of my extended family were on the east coast so I never really knew them that well.
My oldest brother is Mark and he just retired recently as the chief arborist for the City of San Jose in charge of all the street trees. My next oldest sister is Michelle and she is a teacher for autistic children at the Oakland Community School District. Then my next oldest brother is Bruce and he is a land appraiser in and around Grande (sp?), California. Then comes my brother Gary who is a general contractor up in Benton, Oregon and also represents Navajo rugs. Then there is my brother David who is a physical therapist in Ashland, Oregon. Then myself, then my younger brother Brian who is a physical therapist in San Rafael, and my younger sister Cathy who lives in Boulder, Colorado and is a real estate entrepreneur.
