We All Worked on Grandma’s Farm

Father was a farmer, and he kept livestock.

There were four girls. There was Laura, Margaret – she’s dead, and I, and Marilyn.

I was a tomboy. I helped my dad. The other girls; my older sister did housecleaning for wealthy people in Lima. Margaret; she didn’t do anything. She didn’t finish school, but she got married when she was young and then she passed away, of course, when she was young. She had one child.

I went out and helped my dad farm. I helped him in the fields and I helped my mother too cause she took care of the garden and the turnip patch, and I helped her with that. My grandmother lived with us. Really it was my grandma’s farm.

Grandpa died and grandma, she of course cooked. She did the cooking and mother worked outside and daddy did too, and the rest of the girls were gone.

I don’t know how many acres they had, but that time they were doing them with horse. Daddy had horses and at first he didn’t have that. But, he got horses and he had a one-horse plow.
