I remember it being a lot of fun. I have an older brother, Ashley, who is three years older, and a younger brother Michael who is four years younger. And I remember the neighborhood we lived in just had tons of kids our age. All the fathers were coming back from the War and having babies, and so there was, seemed like, 30 or 40 kids in the neighborhood. So plenty of kids to play sports with or other games, that type of thing.
My dad was in the service. He was actually getting ready to be shipped overseas when the War ended, so he never ended up going overseas.
He was in the military, but he didn’t go into combat. Then he actually was an engineer by profession and worked for a company in Dayton, Ohio that made concrete pipes; he was the plant manager there for a while and then moved in to personnel for the corporation. He did that as far back as I can remember. I know he did something else, I can’t remember what it might have been.
My mom never worked. She was just like all the other mothers at that time, a stay-at-home mom taking care of the kids.
Growing up, I was a little good, a little bad. What were we doing? I know the house across the street had a big backyard that was big enough for a baseball diamond, so we were able to play baseball there.
