My very first trip was to Kuala Lumpur. I remember telling my mom and her asking what it was and where, and I told her I didn’t know but I was going. It was in Malaysia.
I remember getting into these buses and trucks and driving up to this Genting Island Resort and Casino. It is one of the top Casino organizations still. They have some in Australia. It was an hour from the town of Mumport (?) in the mountains. It was a mile up. It was physically, a lot cooler.
That was my first experience of going out of the country. Then after that, I went several times back to Asia and did my European trips.
I have just been traveling the world, and seeing the world for free because these shows fly you all over the world for free and put in you the best accommodations, give you a housing stipend, food, transportation, everything. That is where my story is unique because I got to see the world for free.
I went back to Europe three times to different cities and traveled with Spellbound, did a whole tour. Did Cirque due Soleil. I went back and did a show called Magic Magic.
And then I did the whole cruise ship. I started my first cruise in ’95, and did three-and-four day cruises out of Miami. My friend Melissa and I were dancing in Branson, Missouri at a show called Country Tonight. That was a show I also did in Vegas. Our contract was ending, we both auditioned for a cruise ship and we both got hired. She got the seven-day cruise out of San Juan, and I got the three, four day out of Miami. Every Monday and Friday we were at Miami, every Wednesday we were at Can Can Cozumel. It wasn’t that bad. I also had cruise ship duties, which I kind of liked. I greeted the passengers and told them where their cabin was. It was really cute; I would take them to their cabin kind of thing.
I also worked for Jean Ann Ryans productions. She is still in business, and still does cruise ships, she still does Norwegian cruise lines and staffs the ships. We did Sealegs. There was Sealegs at the Sea, Sealegs at the Copa, Sealegs does Hollywood. I only did Sealegs at the Copa. And we did Pirates and danced and tumbled.
I did that too long on the ship. It was a floating world. There was everything: pools, gyms, stores, Jacuzzis. There is not just the whole passenger area, but there is a whole crew area downstairs. And there are bars, separate dining areas, pools. There was everything that was upstairs also down below. But after a while, you get a little crazy and you really want to get off on the land. I did another cruise right after that. I did a seven-day, right out of Vancouver. I went to Juneau, Ketchikan, Skagway, Hanes, and Glacier Bay on celebrity cruises, the Galaxy. It was a beautiful ship, a totally different thing. It was a bigger show, and bigger production.
