We Moved to Mexico Lock, Stock, and Barrel (And Bob had never even seen our new hometown!)

We had been looking for retirement places. We found our home in Todos Santos Mexico about five years before we actually retired. A girlfriend and I came to her timeshare in Cabo San Lucas. One day we drove up to Todos Santos; it was in May of 1998. In August of 1998 we moved lock, stock, and barrel. Even more amazing was that Bob had never been here.

We sold our house and our two Mercedes just like that. We bought a jeep and arrived in Todos sometimes on August 19 or twentieth. We had no clue what it was like in August. We didn’t know that there were bugs and mosquitoes.

I was miserable; I was ready to go back! Meanwhile, Bob was treating this as an adventure.

But I got sick, I got upset, I didn’t like where we were living. The other day we were here we bought this house. We had been living in a rental. Gradually, we’re remodeled the house and moved in just before thanksgiving. It was done quickly that we’ve been working on it ever since.

We were tired of real estate; really tired of it. It’s a grueling business. By the time we left it was profitable but not fun.

Usually we worked out of our homes, but one day we were in the office. One of the deals was bad and we had to go in and speak with our broker. On the way home pub said: “I think it’s time to get out of here!”

So Bob figured out how we could retire and not have to work anymore. That was nine and a half years ago.

But the dream is not wonderful for Bob anymore. We bought a house in Arizona and he spends a lot of time up there. I get back to Todos Santos more often than Bob does.
