With our family if we went somewhere it was usually camping. That was good because my family didn’t do that when I was growing up. It was a real treat. The children develop skills in camping and skills and barbecuing and it is great to see the next generation doing this after they had been taught by Rob and by me.

We camped a lot up by Mariposa. When we started, we used to camp mostly in camp sites. Later on we got into four-wheel-driving and got back into the real mountains. That was fun and exciting.

In the year of the bicentennial my son found a coin that was at least 100 years old. And of course we would always find a lot of Chinese money with the holes in them. We were up by where they used to pan for gold.

Since Rob has been gone we have been going to the other side of the Merced River. We camp in there and it’s a great family thing we do every year.
