Working at RCA, and Singing at the top of My Lungs While Driving Our Tractor

I worked for RCA for 23.5 years when the oldest one got to be in high school. It helped out because I was so sure that if I didn’t get a little help in their clothing or something that maybe they would quit and I wanted each one to have high school education. It wasn’t easy, but I done it.

I drove a tractor. We had a big Minneapolis grain tractor, a big orange one, and behind it my husband would put three different kinds of implements and he’d send me out the field a big field so I didn’t worry about getting in the fences.

I would sing to the top of my voice because I figured it wouldn’t bother anyone. When I worked over at the landlord’s place he would sit on the front porch. Then when I would pull up in the farmyard in the barnyard at the end of the day he would call me to him and tell me that he had the best radio program he ever heard!

I said “You are kidding me?” cause I kind of cared. I thought I was being just smart by singing in a field, but he said, “I hated for you to come up to the house. I knew it was you!” but he said, “It was really nice singing!” I said, “Well, thank you!” (Laughs)
