I guess my first job began at twelve years old as a Racine Journal paper boy, my route was to enclude our neighborhood of country club acres (Fairway Drive) and going west up Spring Street to Indiana Street. The hardest part aside from delivering papers in the rain and snow was trying to collect money door to door from each customer, I learned at that early age that everyone had some excuse as to why they could not pay on the collection day which made you have to return sometimes 2-3 times in an attempt to get your money which the route managers would expect you to get no matter what and it also came out of your pay until collected.
