I’ve been doing a lot of selling it, and doing very well. My art is evolving and I am now into doing large tropical paintings. A few days ago I sold a big 28 by 36in. painting two minutes after I signed my name to it. This month I have sold sixteen or seventeen paintings.
I’m very pleased about this. Now, I have to get to work on some more inventory.
I love this town. I love the restaurants. I love the beauty, I love the artisan stores. I’ve never gotten used to loving the dirt roads. I love the wine bar here; it’s one of my favorite places. The Todos Santos Inn is one of the most beautiful buildings in town. It was developed by my friend Robert Whiting.
I love being friends with the Mexicans. This is a very friendly town even though I don’t speak Spanish very well. I don’t have a good year for another language; it’s been very difficult for me.
Bob was able to build houses down here without speaking the language very well. Somehow he was able to communicate.
In a nutshell, the things I like outweigh the things I don’t like. One of the frustrations was not be able to get things done the way we are able to and the United States. But then again, that’s why we’re here!
It’s a different country, no matter how many gringos come here. That’s a nice thing. I don’t want to change it. That’s why I chose to live in a Mexican bungalow rather than building a big mansion.
One of the other nice things about living here is going to other people’s homes for dinner. But then you have to reciprocate. I used to have a dinner party at least once a week. My house is very accessible; people drop in all the time.
