I moved from the Midwest to Santa Cruz in 1975. I graduated from college in 1972.And I graduated I moved to Chicago and work for Kraft foods in the internal audit department.
In high school I used to work at the gas station. A lot of other kids worked there are too and it was a lot of fun. While I was going to college I worked for the company my dad worked at. It was absolutely horrible day-laborer, dirty, crummy, wear-you-it down job. That was at the concrete plant. It was just physical commentary, sloppy stuff.
When I graduated I moved to Chicago and worked for Kraft foods. It was in Chicago that I took the CPA exam and passed that. Afterwards, I moved out to California. I took a couple of part-time jobs here-and-there. I worked in San Jose for a mortgage firm where I did accounting. I was trying to decide what I wanted to do.
One day I was walking down Pacific Avenue in Santa Cruz and I saw a sign that said “Pacific tax service.”
This was in February and I went in and asked if they needed any help during tax season. That was February, 1979. I started working part-time and got to know taxes. Now, here I am ready to go into the 28th tax season working for Pacific tax service.
