Flying the Hump Gave Me Religion

I belong to the First Christian Church here in Hanford. I was baptized into the Christian church. I think flying the Hump gave me a little religion. Sometimes you would get up in the morning and hear about a crew that had taken off the day before and never got back. The last I heard there are about 500 crew members missing in the China-Burma-India theater that they’ve never located. The year went down in the jungle or they went down in the Himalayas so high that they are frozen up there.

A Chinese crew accidentally found an American plane about two or three years ago. They were above 20,000 feet in the ice. They never found the crew but they found the plane. They wouldn’t survive 24 hours at that altitude with no clothes and no oxygen.

I wouldn’t want to do it again but it was an experience, a real experience!
