At one time I thought faith was important in my life. I am very stubborn about things. I was almost baptized, but there were some things I wasn’t really sure of, so I didn’t commit myself. I was a teenager during these years. I told myself that if I couldn’t accept all of it, I would accept none of it. So I never was baptized.

My sister Pearl was disappointed. She never had children but she adopted two. Muriel, however, never had children. For her last husband, she got stuck with some awful guy. I was the luckiest one in the family; I got the right one the first time.

Burial always said: “I don’t need to adopt children, I have children all over.” Muriel taught school, and those were her children.
