Faith wasn’t really important my life. When we played with Javier Vargas, we would play the catholic mass almost every weekend, so I do go to church a lot!
Of course it’s all and Spanish but I can understand most of it.
My mother’s father, my grandfather was a Christian Science practitioner; he healed people through prayer. My mom had to go through a lot of religion. The Christian Science face is pretty strict, and mom didn’t want me to go through that. There was a little bit of going to church as a child but mom didn’t think it was important.
Then of course being brought up on an Indian reservation there was a whole different view of religion. God wasn’t “up there,” but in everything: a rock, leaves, and animals. I think that’s more of what mom instilled in me. When I’m out in nature watching the sun said or listening to birds sing… that’s how I will bring up my kids. And my wife feels the same way.
I have mixed feelings about religion. I think more people have been killed over religion than any other thing. But I also have respect for those individual religions and how people feel. I can appreciate sitting in church every weekend with how the years group and feeling part of it. I may be a better catholic and some “real” Catholics!
I want my boys to grow up to be sensitive, moral, and caring which is what every religion professes.
