Faith is very important my life but right now I’m going to an Episcopal church because I got very discouraged with the Catholic Church. I don’t like the stances they’ve taken on homosexuals and a whole lot of other things.
When I was in Saint Paul the church was very small and almost always all black. The Episcopal Church and I’m going to now reminds me of that church. The Episcopal Church is just like going to the Catholic Church. If someone had told me it wasn’t a catholic church I would have never known. It’s very small and the people are absolutely wonderful. They have a woman priest. They just hired a new director whose name is Mickey Spillane. He will arrive this week. It’s small and this church is so much like the Catholic Church that I didn’t miss anything at all.
I still consider myself catholic and hope someday that I will go back but I can’t go back just now. I can’t accept their stand on so many things, like their stand on abortion. A woman has a life. It’s so easy not to get pregnant and the church doesn’t want you to practice birth control!
You know, I wanted a big family. We sent our kids to private schools; they all went to Saint Francis high school. I wanted a big family but if you don’t want a big family then practice birth control. I told a priest point-blank one time: “you know if my twelve-year-old-daughter got pregnant I wouldn’t hesitate to get an abortion.”
I told him that no twelve year old child has any business with a baby. Of course I never had to face that situation but I feel very strongly about it. I think a woman has a right to choose. It’s like that woman who threw away her baby because she didn’t want it and threw it in the trash. It’s ridiculous.
