My Faith is Very Important

For me, yes faith is very important. We are members of the Presbyterian Church. I found it very interesting because Vern’s parents were very liberal and well read. When we cleaned out their house, Vern’s brother came across the bible with umpteen volumes with many pictures. He said that he was never allowed to look at those because his parents thought he might be influenced by them. So, we come from very different values.

Faith played a stronger part in my life. I believe in God and I go to church. To me, God is all around, and you can see God in all kinds of situations. Sometimes you realize it and sometimes you don’t.

The group that Mary Ann went to at church  had a communication class. She came home and said that she wasn’t sure if she wanted to go to church to meet  with all of the elders for church membership or if she wanted to go to a dance. I told her she didn’t have to join the church, it should be a decision she wanted to make. So, she went to the dance. I called the church and told them that Mary Ann thought she was supposed to go along with everyone, and it wasn’t supposed to be that way at all.

Then, the next year she wanted to join the church. And she did. Mary Ann went to Sunday school. Then Vern got the boat, and I chose to go with him because he was my husband. So poor Susan didn’t go to Sunday school. Then she married Claudio, who is Catholic. He went to Catholic school and worked in a Monastery.

They were married in a Catholic church. They have two kids. Claudio started worrying that his boys were going to go to hell because they weren’t baptized. Susan said she wasn’t going to join the Catholic Church. So, Claudio said he would join the Presbyterian Church. Susan asked me my why I had joined the Presbyterian Church and not some other denomination . I said it was because the ministers there were educated and can appeal to your intellect. So, they joined.

Claudio decided to join the church in San Ramon and still be a Catholic. It turned out it was a Southern Presbyterian church. They are different. It turned out that they don’t let women be ordained as elders. Susan was not for that, so she didn’t join the church. Claudio joined the church and they had the kids baptized there. Every Sunday the whole family goes there to church although Susan is not a member.  She takes her turn working in the nursery, as does Claudio.   They  go to family night.
