Well, in our younger days we used to run around and go to these towns picking up these young ladies. That’s where I met her in Fostoria. Now, I am not sure, I think it was around…Easter time. I met her before I went in the service I think I was 18 and when I met her she was 15 I think.
Yeah, but see then I was gone for four years so she finished her school and then when I come home on leave, well, I would look her up. I gotta tell you a story about my future father-in-law.
I pulled up out in front in the younger days courting and blowed the horn. When that front door opened this here little skinny, white-haired guy made about three leaps. He was down them steps and had a hold of that car door knob!
He said, “If you are man enough to call on my daughter you’re man enough to come to the door! Don’t blow the horn no more!”
I never blowed the horn after that. But then him and I was like that from then on.
I always used to kid her; the way to a lady is through her mother. Get on the good side of the mother and…the rest is easy. That’s the way it went in my day.
But, yes, I got very close to my in-laws, very. They were up in the later years before they had the girls. There was two girls. So they didn’t get to see too many grandchildren.
