It Took Me 20 Years to Get My Degree, But I Did It!

When I went to go to high school the crime was so bad in the neighborhood that they put me in a catholic high school in the middle of Manhattan. That was called Cathedral high school. When I graduated, the ceremony was held in Saint Patrick’s cathedral. It was a very large school. When I went to college I went to Hunter College for six months.

Because I had been in all girls schools from seventh grade, boys were something new. So I didn’t study in college and I lasted six months. It took me from 1962 until 1984 to get my bachelor’s degree. We moved around the country and I went to different colleges. I finally got my bachelor’s degree from the University of Texas.

When I graduated high school I wanted to be a math teacher. Later on, when we were in Olympia Washington, I had the opportunity to go back to school and get my master’s degree and a teaching certificate. I was in my fifties, but I did teach!

I Finish My College Degree in my Fifties

I was mesmerized by guys and got in with a bad group. We would cut classes and play cards. It was fun. I thought I was smart enough that I didn’t have to study, but when the tests came I didn’t know the answers. Plus, I took five really difficult classes. I wasn’t well-advised. This was at Hunter College in the Bronx. I wanted to be a math teacher.
