Landeck only had eight grades of school so high school we had to go to Delphos. We actually rode the bus to Delphos but prior to that we walked to school about a mile and a half. Landeck was just elementary.

That was one through eighth grade; there was no kindergarten in those days. Then we went to high school. We went to Delphos for high school and that was the limit of my formal educations.

Well, when you lived on a farm you gotta realize what it was like to play basketball. We did not have any place you could dribble a basketball because the barn was hay and wooden floor, so we went to high school. Everybody went out for the basketball team but people on the farm only lasted three days! (Laughter)

And we didn’t have football so there was almost nobody from the farm made the basketball team. We didn’t have a chance to practice. So there really were no sports for the average kids at that time in high school.
