World War II Interrupted my High School Days

I went to Mission Hill School.   I don’t remember anything particular about it.   It was school.   Something you had to do and something you weren’t too sure you wanted to do!

I went to Santa Cruz High School starting in 1940 or 41, somewhere around that area.  I played football and basketball like all kids did in those days.  No big star, just for the fun of it.  A little bit of baseball.  Not necessarily high school baseball but local softball and neighborhood teams and stuff like that.  I used to hang out at Cowell’s Beach.  I was never a big surfer or anything like that but I tried my hand at it.  I fooled with it, but Cowell’s Beach was the local beach just to the right of the pier there.  Still is.

Well, the war came along.  Before I finished high school, I joined the Navy.   I went in the Navy and got that out of the way.  I came back and finished high school and then I was trying to figure out what I wanted to do and if I wanted to go back to college or what to do.
