World War II Interrupted my High School Days

I went to Mission Hill School. I don’t remember anything particular about it. It was school. Something you had to do and something you weren’t too sure you wanted to do!
I went to Santa Cruz High School starting in 1940 or 41, somewhere around that area. I played football and basketball like all kids did in those days. No big star, just for the fun of it. A little bit of baseball. Not necessarily high school baseball but local softball and neighborhood teams and stuff like that. I used to hang out at Cowell’s Beach. I was never a big surfer or anything like that but I tried my hand at it. I fooled with it, but Cowell’s Beach was the local beach just to the right of the pier there. Still is.
Well, the war came along. Before I finished high school, I joined the Navy. I went in the Navy and got that out of the way. I came back and finished high school and then I was trying to figure out what I wanted to do and if I wanted to go back to college or what to do.
