I Outlast Three More Husbands

Since I lost my husband in 1975 then I got married to George Gordon, and I was alone for five and a half years.

Then someone I had known for 43 years lost his wife and looked me up and he asked me to be his wife and I was married to him…how many years? I was married to him for five and a half years.

Then it was another five and a half before I met the next one, but he died after not quite four years of marriage.

I was alone again. I tried to make up some poems because I was so touched the Lord let me have companions like that.

Then someone else happened to be acquainted to somebody and came to Findlay for business. As he was talking to the lady and I found out she was somebody that went to my church.

She called me and she asked me if I’d care to have another friend. I said, “Oh, I guess so.” So, we became friends and he popped the question also! So, the good Lord let me have companions, but they each had problems so they didn’t live very long. Oh, I gotta stop a little bit.

So that way anybody taking notes, it jumps around.

My Second Husband was a Blind Man

Well…well, my second husband was a blind man and his wife used to work in the same place that my sister did. When she heard that his wife had gone she let me know.

She says, “I’d like for you to get acquainted with George.”

I said, “Well its okay. I’m not afraid of people,” you know?

Then so we got acquainted and of course since he didn’t drive he always had to walk everywhere he went and I lived about a mile from him.

Then one day he called me, can he come over? I said, “Well, it’s quite a ways over here.” He says, “Well you could come and pick me up and then we can go out to eat. It would be nice.” I said, “Okay.”

I didn’t want him to walk so far because it was uphill to my place. So, that’s the way I became acquainted with him.

In all I had four! And, they were all just wonderful husbands. I mean, they were kind. They just considered me – one called me a Duchess. It kind of embarrassed me because I never figured I’d have that kind of a title, and the third one him and his wife brought their little boy out to our place on the farm to visit. So I knew him for 43 years.

The last one, he just came to Findlay with a sweeper that he wanted to get fixed and he was talking to the sweeper lady and he says – he knew that she was from my church – so he said, “Do you think that you know someone that would care for another friend?” and she said, “Well, I’ll let you know if you want to give me your address.”

So, she called me and I agreed and he wanted me to meet him at a restaurant. So I said that would be okay. That would be a good way to get acquainted.

So he says, “When I first saw you I knew you were going to be my wife!” I said, “How did you know that?” He said, “I don’t know. It just happened.”

I want to get this as near - in line. Of course the cord changes…can you do anything with it? I am trying to go through the young part. I lose track of it.
