Joyous Period

It would be foolish for me to try and pick out only one joyous period.  I consider that I have had a superb life. I met the girl of my dreams.  We have been married for 56 years.  We’ve always had the same interests in one thing or another.  We had 5 kids that have never given us a problem, and 9 beautiful granchildren.  I can’t say that there is any one thing that really stands out in the midst of all that.

Tragedy

When I was young, there was a segment of my extended family that still lived on the farm.  Every summer I would spend 2 weeks on that farm where I had a cousin who was very dear to me.  Every summer he would take me under his wing.  He was about 4 years older than I was and I would go everywhere he went.  I loved him like a brother and always respected him.  But when I was an early adult, probably 23 or 24, I learned that he hanged himself for some reason.  I felt really sad for him.  I guess that’s the only tragedy that I can remember befalling me.  I still to this day don’t know what the circumstances were that made him so remorseful that he did that.
