One of Many Lifetime Highs: Promoting Concerts

We’ve had some issues with our son. This is mostly a part of Bob’s story. I’m glad to say that he’s now doing well, and that’s all I want to say about it.

I’ve had a fun life. There have been some good times while I was in real estate. And and lots of interesting people; good clients. It was good until it wasn’t good anymore. When it wasn’t good it was over!

Down here in Todos Santos I still like to search out the good properties and stay informed about everything. I’ve brought a lot of people here.

One of the most fun times of my life was doing the concert. They were very popular. Of course in those days we didn’t charge very much, either.

My headliner became a fairly famous folk singer in the bay area. She was just about ready to burst onto the national scene when she died of leukemia. Her name was Kate Wolfe. She was very, very well known in the bay area.

I met Kate and her husband while they were folk singing at a restaurant in Santa Rosa. We became friends. I loved her music. In addition, she was a songwriter.

One day we were talking at the restaurant and I said: “you should do a concert At the grove.”

The grove was a piece of property that my family owned. In about a month we put on the harvest festival in the grove. I think about four or 500 people came to it.

During that winter, we decided to put on a series of concerts the following summer. We did that for on other two or three years. We had a concert every other week from may through October.

It was fabulous! Just fabulous!

Everyone came: families, kids, babies, doctors, lawyers, hippies. You could smell the… People would bring their picnics.

Every other week we had a different singing group. I love of country folk music.

My last concert was in 1976. After that things changed; the world changed. We had to get serious about life; we had to get a real job. That’s when I got my real estate license. Meanwhile, Bob had a fabulous company that was very successful.

I’m not a Mexican citizen yet. I could be; I’m eligible for that. I’m not seeing the advantages unless we are buying and selling property.

Living down here my worst issue is missing my family so much. I miss my kids and my grandkids. I just can’t see them enough.

We have another home in Arizona which is even harder to get to, believe it or not. When we go back to the United States and a few weeks, we will put our car on the ferry and drive back. That’s fun! The highways on the Mexican mainland are quite good. You don’t take your life and your hands as much they’re as you do here.

We’ve driven the length of the Baja peninsula about six times; it’s terrible. One of the downsides of living here is not having easy access to the United States.

Bob wanted to move to a Rosarito Beach so we could just pop across the border, but I didn’t like it there.

My sister pat is in love with this place. She has a sixteen year old son that she is raising on her own because her husband died five years ago. Her son doesn’t want to be here; he has high school to finish.

I love the Hotel California. It’s so beautiful. I love what they did to it.

Todos Santos is changing drastically. It’s becoming very upscale. But if you don’t want to see that, just drive through the Barrios which are still very interesting and very authentic.

I love the idea that we are living right here, on the cusp between the Barrios and the trendy section. People can come here to my gallery.
