We used to race midget racecars. One time we won the nationals and I was so happy. It was in Ventura. We had just gotten back from Tucson. There were 103 cars and we cleaned house and won. And we won two thousand bucks. I built the engines for George’s radiators. In those days you could put a Volkswagen engine together for about five or six thousand bucks. I built two for my son. We bought the Cosworth. Then the Pontiac came out and my son said it was too expensive.

I was racing since 1946. I got a fractured skull one day, and then I stopped racing.
