We Lost Our Oldest Son in a Highway Accident

We lost our son, our oldest son.  He was a senior in high school and he had hitchhiked on spring break out to Colorado and coming home a truck driver picked him up and fell asleep on the overpasses.  This happened in Iowa and he fell asleep and smashed into it and killed them both.  He was 17.

That was the biggest one, and the second one was three years ago, yeah, when our baby son, the one twin had a set of twins, a boy and girl and the little girl was fine, the little boy was born with a defective valve in the heart.  So as soon as he was born he had to be life-flighted to Hanover, Michigan and have his heart redone.  Well the doctors, they won’t’ give you any guarantees.

I just thought all along from the time Anthony was born and I thought…I had a hard time because I am in a wheelchair and I couldn’t go up to Toledo to be with him.  So I talked to the little guy and we got through it.  He’s three years old doing real good.  Has a little hearing problem in his left ear.  He will never be able to play sports and now they found he has this children’s arthritis.

But they found some medications, steroids, they put them on and he’s adhering to them real well and he is a precious, so, the biggest turning points I guess would have to be it, and I would say that fate got us through that, plus 52 years of marriage to the same guy.
