No Draft for Me; the War Was Over

I did get a draft number but I was so confused that the time that I don’t know whether I would have gone. As I was growing up I asked my parents: “am I going to get drafted? Am I going to get drafted?”

And mom would always tell me: “no, the war will be over by then.”

When I turned sixteen or seventeen to war was still going. I had to go to civil service but I got a very high draft number. The war ended soon after that so I was very lucky.
