I served in the navy. I enlisted in the reserves on December 31, 1943. In May I was called up to be a naval aviation cadet. I flunked out for various reasons. This was my first major defeat. I was really crushed but I went out to the fleet where I was a seaman first-class quartermaster. I served on the USS Wyoming, AG17, which is a gunnery ship.
I also served on the USS Constellation, the AH15, which is a hospital ship. I got discharged and stayed in the reserve. I got a commission after I graduated from college. I was eventually promoted from ensign to lieutenant junior grade. I was discharged with that rank in 1954 or 1955.
From December, 1946 on, everything was in the reserves. I was not in active duty.
