Get Up Every Day and Go to Work. Embrace It. Enjoy It.

It seems so cliché, but keep it simple. My life doesn’t look like it’s simple but it is really pretty simple. Don’t be complicated about which are doing. Get to the grain of which are doing, the one simplicity of one truth. Just work on that.

Also one thing I used to tell my kids when they were little: don’t lie. Lying is a bad thing. It’s a lot easier not to lie because when you live you have to remember all the details. You might forget and slip up, so just tell me the truth. Take the consequences, whatever they are. The truth is best. I think that one really took with my kids.

I don’t think I have any real sage words of wisdom except for this: I get up every day and I go to work. Whether my work is outside in my garden, or we’re building a spec house up the road. Whatever you perceive your work to be, embrace it and enjoy it. Get up every day and go to work. Even if work is traveling and you’re on a long trip through Peru and Ecuador and Bolivia, just get up every day and go to work. Do your thing. Don’t live around and bemoan this or that. Get up and get on with it.
