Our First 40 Years Were Rough

Don’t jump to conclusions.

Think it through.  There’s two sides to every story and don’t make haste because it may be the wrong way to go.

Work it out, and it’s worth working out if you both work at it, and no matter what you’ve done it can always be undone and bettered.

Our first 50 years, no that’s wrong, our first 40 years were rough. Very rough, because I was the basic child-raiser.  Then Mel retired and then of course my legs started getting worse and worse and it’s just turned around.

Now he’s the caregiver and the kids look back on it and they say, “Gee, we never figured he would do that.”  So, patience.

And I will say patience and don’t lose your faith.  But you know, I think down deep they know – I hope they do – what I’m trying to give to them.  So they’ll have something to go away with you know?

Enjoy life, but let tomorrow come too.  Don’t try to enjoy it all in one day.

Our oldest boy now just turned 50 and I put on his birthday card, “50 is a great year but 51 is too,” so when he got the card and came over I got a kiss out of that.  He said thank you.  So I think he understood what I meant, you know?
