I Start Doing Odd Jobs Around Town

And then we came to Laredo, and then I start to work when I was 13 years old doing things - you know, doing the things that I can do at my age. I was sweeping floors, you know, on the stores, and this and that. I shined shoes for 10 cents.

From there we came to Calculos, Texas right between Laredo and San Antonio. It was a small town. I started working and riding around with the cowboys there because I wasn’t old enough myself to learn anything like that. But the owner of the place was a gringo. That’s a white guy you know. He was a really nice person. He was like my dad, my real dad. His name was Jack Mossberger

And he lived in Calculos. He had two sons and the guy was a really nice person. I got paid just to ride around, you know with the cowboys I started learning more and more and more.
