Three vivid Memories

I can remember just three memories from the streets that are vivid.
One is sitting out on the back wooden steps with my dad eating a piece of pie in my hand – he was a pie face – and we both were snickering because we knew we were doing something wrong and mom was going to get us! (Laughter)
And, I remember, I must have been out playing in the snow and my sister Marion should have been watching me, or was watching me supposedly. All I can remember is standing in the kitchen seeing her wiping her tears in front of the little mirror they had in the kitchen. I was told it was all my fault because I had gone through the back yard to the neighbor girl’s on the other street. It was a busy street, and I hadn’t told them. They followed my footprints. Boy was I in trouble! So, then I couldn’t go out and sled in the street that night with the other kids that were out there. I stood looking out the window and seeing all the kids sliding.
The other one they tell me about. I don’t remember, but there’s an overpass out there and I ran away that time too. They looked everywhere and they found me finally at the foot of the overpass, which would be like maybe two blocks away. I was trying to decide if I should go up over the overpass or down into the train yard. So, I guess I wasn’t a very good girl.
I do remember one day I was on the couch, it was evening, it was a full moon outside and my dad and his friends were playing cards in the dining room. It was kind of a square-type house – and I said, “I have to tell mom! I have to tell mom!” and he said, “Don’t you tell mom!” I said, “I want to tell her about the moon!” but evidently whatever was being said there I wasn’t supposed to tell! (Laughter) Because I couldn’t figure out why he didn’t want me to…
But anyhow we moved up to…I think Grand Avenue was the first place. I can go by houses there. That was considered the north end, and mom and dad have moved into another house. They had lived over on the corner of Metcalf and Marion and we have pictures of that and that house still stands. My sister’s girlfriend lived across the street and they still know each other.
