GreatLifeStories Passes the 1000-Story Milepost

Incredible Untold True Stories Are Being Posted Daily as the "Ken Burns Effect" Inspires the Silent Generation to Speak Out About Their Lives

SUNNYVALE, CA--October 22, 2007--Just one month after introduction of GreatLifeStories, this free web site now contains more than 1000 unique stories from people all across America, and is growing rapidly.

Although the site contains stories covering the majority of the twentieth century, a large percentage are from WWII-era vets, their wives and families. These highly personal stories offer a unique window into the lives of ordinary Americans during the pivotal war years. A quick sampling of recently-added family treasures includes:

  • Bernie Miller: One of a handful of surviving veterans who flew B-24's across the notoriously dangerous "Hump" routes in the Himalayas
  • Bob Newman: During the invasion of North Africa, this communications corpsman fell in love with and married a beautiful Jewish French woman near the fabled city of Casablanca
  • Dorothy Zeyen: As a young girl in LA, her father worked providing water to Japanese farmers in the area. She sobbed the day her many Japanese friends were rounded up and shipped to detention centers

The "Ken Burns Effect"

"We are seeing people all across America adding their most treasured memories to our public site," said Phil Gibson, GreatLifeStories founder and CEO. "The Ken Burns WW II series has really raised the visibility of this for the remaining WW II vets and their children.

"Suddenly, the Silent Generation is talking," says Susan Ayers Walker, founder and Managing Director of SmartSilvers Alliance, a Menlo Park, California based consultancy that focuses on aging and technology. "The fastest growing population adopting the Internet is the 'Silent Generation'-- people born between 1925 and 1945. They want to stay connected with children and grandchildren, receiving digital pictures and getting email. The War series is inspiring many of these people to capture their life histories."
