Great Life Stories

Great Life Stories is an online web community located at http://www.greatlifestories.com created to share and celebrate life's experience, reflections, and accomplishments. Members of the community can post personal memoirs or the life stories of friends and family on the site in a secure manner. Those stories can be limited to a specific group of visitors identified by the author or they can be shared with the world through access on the internet.

Great Life Story members can create a lasting legacy for their children, grandchildren, and beyond. Members can rediscover old friends, meet new ones, or simply enjoy experiences shared by other members.

Great Life Stories Incorporated follows this privacy policy regarding its collection, use and dissemination of personal and non-personal information collected through its web community. From time to time, we may make changes to our privacy policy. If we make changes, we will post them to our community at this location. We will make our best efforts to maintain all uses of information and disclose them through this Privacy Policy so you will know what information we collect, how we use it, and when we may disclose it to third parties. Great Life Stories reserves the right to modify its privacy policy at any time.

Information Collection and Use by Great Life Stories
Great Life Stories cares deeply about the personal privacy of our members. As a result, we ask for the minimal personal information necessary. A functional email account is the only required information for basic use of the community. This is required to control visibility and edit access to your stories. We also need a valid way to communicate with you about your Story and for the approval of postings to your memoirs.

Some voluntary extended services on the site do require fees and typical billing information will be requested for those services when requested by users.

Great Life Stories will collect other user profile information at the discretion of our users. This information could include but is not limited to: personal interests and preferences, gender, age, education military service, occupations, and relatives or acquaintances.

Great Life Stories typically includes the name and one or more pictures about the author or the target of a story. For public stories, this information is displayed as the author chooses to disclose it. This public story information is shared with the community's visitors to facilitate interaction and the additional sharing of stories and memoirs. Personal email addresses are not shared. User created screen names facilitate the sharing of information between users without the public disclosure of email addresses. Direct email correspondence only occurs when a user chooses to do so.

Search is used extensively on the Great Life Stories community as a way to find people, places, or time periods when different stories occurred. This means that if a user chooses to post their life story with their name and photograph as a public story, a user of a public search engine like Google or Yahoo could find and view that information through a public search engine.

Collection of Personal Information
Whenever possible, any collection of personal information will be clearly labeled on the site. When you attempt to save your first story on the site, we will ask for your screen name, your email address, and personal password. Great Life Stories also utilizes "Cookies" to collect user activity in our community.

Use of Cookies
Great Life Stories is committed to continually improving the experience for our users as they visit our site. Cookies help us to effectively identify unique anonymous visitors and understand their navigation during a visit. When visitors to our site run into problems with their browser revision or our HTML implementation, cookies allow us to isolate their specific session in our visitor log files. This allows us to replicate the environment and isolate visitor reported problems. We also use cookies to personalize our site and offer unique services for each visitor. Cookies and My Stories preferences are two methods that we use to offer features to repeat visitors that we could not offer to anonymous visitors.

Use and Disclosure of Personal Information
Great Life Stories is a for profit business. This requires that we maintain personal activity information for statistical purposes, to improve our community for our users, to offer services, to administer the community, and to correspond with our visitors. Great Life Stories may give or sell this statistical information to third parties to assist us in providing information or services to you or to manage and improve the community and databases. For example, Great Life Stories may provide your story's popularity or visit ranking to advertisers regarding their promotion of products to you. Great Life Stories will also respond to legal requests for information where required to do so by law.

From time to time, Great Life Stories or a partner may sponsor a promotion or contest on GreatLifeStories.com. Visitors may be asked to provide personal information including name, email address, home address, or to answer questions in order to participate. We may transfer personal information to certain ad partners for ads where you explicitly request to send or receive information to that advertiser. These interactions will be clearly at the user's discretion.

Access to Personal Information Stored On Great Life Stories Servers
You can modify or delete your personal account information within the My Stories profile at any time. This is done through the My Account link on the header of the community. You can also modify your personal contact preferences under My Notifications.

Access to Public Stories Stored On Great Life Stories Servers
You can edit your Great Life Story content at any time. You can delete your stories and your account from our servers at any time. When you publish a chapter of your story to "Public" status, we work closely with many of the major search engines on the internet to raise the visibility of your story. Search engines are in the business of indexing information and making it easy to find. Successful indexing means that it will be easy for your friends and family to find your stories.

We need to caution you that while you can delete your stories from our sit cached or indexed versions of your story on the many search engines around the internet. Great Life Stories cannot delete this search information from other company's servers. Please do not include any sensitive personal information (like your home address or phone number) in your Great Life Story.

Use of Great Life Stories "Public" Stories
Please be aware that whenever you voluntarily post "Public" information to your Great Life Story or any other public forum that this information is readily visible to the internet. It can be accessed by the public and if you include personal contact information in your posting, it can be used by these people to send you unsolicited communications.

Collection of Non-Personal Information
Whenever you visit a web page on the internet, your browser automatically identifies the IP address from where your page request was initiated. It also volunteers certain basic information like browser type, the operating system you are running, and in some cases the page that referred you to the Great Life Stories community. Every server on the internet automatically collects this information and tracks it on a page by page and on a statistical basis.

Use of Non-Personal Information
Great Life Stories uses non-personal information such as the site you referred from to suggest the best likely promotion for visitors aligned to that site. We also use browser type, operating system, and page visits for statistical analysis of site usage and navigation trends.

Correspondence, Notifications, Email Choice, or Opting Out
After creating an account, you have the option to complete a personal interest profile. You can also subscribe to a Great Life Stories newsletter or email notifications when a certain type of story is posted. Where possible, Great Life Stories uses this interest profile to modify the information delivered to your browser to be more aligned to your interests. Great Life Stories will also use your activity in the community to trigger messages to you over email or to make offers to you during your visits. If you wish to stop receiving newsletters or emails (i.e. opt out), we will terminate the activity upon receipt of your request.

We will continue to send you updates or other news regarding the status of your story or account while you have an active story in the community. You can cancel any and all communications with Great Life Stories by removing your story from the community and cancelling your account at any time.

Extended Services Commerce and Ordering Information
If you request additional or premium services, we will also ask for your credit card name, credit card number, back of the credit card 3 digit security code, billing address, and expiration date. This information will be used only for the limited purpose of processing your orders.

Third Party Advertising
Ads appearing on the Great Life Stories community may be generated locally on the Great Life Stories servers or through a third party advertising partner. Our web advertising partners may set cookies. These cookies allow the ad server to recognize your computer each time they send you an online advertisement. In this way ad servers may compile information about where you, or others who are using your computer, saw their advertisements and determine which ads are clicked on. This information allows an ad network to deliver targeted advertisements that they believe will be of most interest to you. This privacy policy covers the use of cookies by GreatLifeStories.com and does not cover the use of cookies by any advertisers.

The Great Life Stories community contains links to third party internet sites either placed there by advertisers or by community members. We encourage you to review the privacy policies for any third party site that you visit. We do not control those web sites and cannot speak for how they will use your information.

Account Access Security
Access to your personal information is limited to Great Life Stories employees and our service providers who we believe have a justified business reason to access your information. All personal account information is protected through password access and is only visible to authorized employees.

Commerce Security
When you purchase a product or extended service from Great Life Stories or one of our partners, our goal is to ensure that your information will be transmitted across the web with the highest degree of security possible. We use Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) technology which encrypts sensitive information such as your name, address, phone number, credit card, etc. The Great Life Stories community also uses the Verisign digital identification service which allows your browser to properly confirm the server you are transacting with is a Great Life Story server. During the transaction, the server is properly identified with your browser and the information is encrypted before your personal and credit card information is transmitted.

Invitations and Other Communications to Non-Community Members
Great Life Stories members can invite friends and family to join the community by sending invitation emails via our automated invitation system. Great Life Stories remembers the email addresses that members provide so that the respondents can be easily added to the friends and family list of the member sending the invitations if they choose to do so.

Great Life Stories does not sell these email addresses or use them to send any other communications unless the respondent signs up for a Great Life Stories community account. Recipients of your invitations from Great Life Stories may contact GreatLifeStories.com to request removal of their information from our database at any time through the contact information listed below.

Great Life Stories members may also store email addresses or other personal information of friends and family in their "Friends & Family" list and may choose to send invitations and other communications (like family reunion notifications) to those addresses.

You can terminate Great Life Stories communications from any Great Life Stories user name at your discretion by sending an email request to webmaster@greatlifestories.com with the subject "ABUSIVE USER NAME", at any time.
